Squaretop Trip

July 2006

This trip turned out to be more of a hike than a climb, but it was still awesome! The Wind River Range is second to none in N America, just fantastic scenery everywhere you look.

We backpacked in to the Upper Green River Lake and made a base camp. The plan was to day hike Squaretop from there, and any other destination we thought might be interesting. There are an unlimited amount of places to explore for sure.

Turns out that Tate was coming down with an illness, and suffered an earache for the duration we were there, though he was a trooper. We cut the trip short, though we had a great time. The one thing that was a drawback...the infamous mosquitos that inhabit this area...truly ferocious. I think I OD'd on bug spray.....

Bonus was the moose that visited us for breakfast. Oh, and we forgot to bring any eating utensils....we carved spoons out of sticks....

We hiked a few miles upriver and had lunch ....sandwiches of salami and cheese, along with some snacks of chocolate and peanuts, with filtered water with fruit flavoring....mmmmmm...good. Tate was not feeling so good, so we cut the afternoon short, hiked back to camp, loaded up and then hiked back to the trail head. Cool drinks for everyone. Then for a nice 3 hour drive home. All and all a short, but nice trip. Next time we hope to stay longer.

We will always remember this trip. Fantastic!
